Government Affairs Update - No Impact Fee Increase in 2008
This last week, in a 4-2 vote, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners voted to postpone a 9.3% increase in the impact fees until April 2009. Citing that the housing market needs time to revive, discussion circulated around the true effects of raising impact fees at this time. The 2007 impact fee report has been under works with Palm Beach County and Gold Coast Builders Association since the passage of the last increase in October of 2005. Additional decisions that were made include the following: Authorize modifying Article 13, ULDC, create a public buildings impact fee credit provision when civic site lands are donated without specific, identified issues; Authorize modifying Article 13, ULDC, to decrease impact fees for Law Enforcement (residential land uses), as calculated in the report of the impact fee consultant; and Deny the establishment of a new Solid Waste impact fee.
