New Condominium disclosure law takes effect January 1, 2009
Beginning Jan. 1, 2009, condominium buyers are entitled to receive from sellers (who are not developers) a disclosure developed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) which details the rights and responsibilities of condominium boards and unit owners, voting rights, meeting notices and other governance matters.

As we do every year we would like to remind our readers of the deadline for filing for your property tax exceptions. If you bought a home this past year or missed the deadline for exceptions in 2007 don’t forget to file. Below you will find all the information that you will need to know to save money on your property taxes in Palm Beach County, Florida.

Florida Makes Top 10 In Education
The 2009 Quality Counts: Portrait of a Population report, published annually by Education Week gave Florida the 10th highest education ranking in the United States. Florida's ranking has risen significantly in the past few years, up from 14th in 2007 and 31st in 2006. The reports ranks states in six categories including, Chance for Success; Transitions and Alignment; School Finance; K-12 Achievement; Standards, Assessments, and Accountability; and the Teaching Profession. Florida ranked 7th in K-12 Achievement and 4th in the Teaching Profession. This ranking comes on the heels of Florida's 2007-08 High School Graduation Rate, which reached the highest points ever this year over 75 percent.
Jupiter Lighthouse receives New Federal Designation
This past month the Jupiter Inlet Natural Area that includes the lighthouse and its surrounding 120 acres became part of the new federal conservation system. This is the first site on the East Coast to receive the designation. The lighthouse that has guided ships since 1860 is one of my most favorite places to spend an afternoon climbing the stairway to overlook some of the most beautiful views of the mainland and Atlantic Ocean.
Palm Beach County receives $500,000 grant for DuBois Park in Jupiter
The Palm Beach County Commissioners have accepted a $500,000 Florida Boating Improvement Program grant from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The money will be used for DuBois Park docks and shoreline stabilization. Located just south of the Jupiter inlet and adjacent to Carlin Park in Jupiter, the total Dubois Park Marina project is currently estimated at $3.6 million, and includes: Rebuild slips for 24 vessels along the peninsula, renovate the existing dock slips at Zeke's Marina, repair the existing single concrete boat ramp, install rip-rap for shoreline stabilization, create a one-acre snorkeling area.
The park features more than 1,200 feet of beach frontage the site has been utilized as a public park for over 40 years and is one of the county's most popular beach and fishing locations. Replacement of the day use dock slips will restore public use as a boater destination park in the northern part of the county. Within the park is the DuBois Pioneer Home and Indian Mound historical and archaeological site. DuBois house was erected in 1898, is the second oldest extant house in Palm Beach County. The home is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4 so you may enjoy all the history of the many documents on display in the home.
Abacoa in Jupiter Florida prepares for Spring Training
Individual tickets for the 2009 Spring Training season will go on sale January 17 at 10:00 a.m., at the Roger Dean Stadium box office. Tickets can be purchased at the box office windows or through Ticketmaster by phone (1-800-745-3000) and internet (www.ticketmaster.com ).
